This new photo above of THE HUNGER GAMES came from an unlikely source, Business Insider. It shows Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss aiming to shoot at.. possibly one of the Kardashians, who the hell knows. I’m a big fan of the book and I can’t wait for this adaptation to arrive. Even though I still can’t buy Lawrence as Katniss, I have trust in her Oscar nominated talent, she can pull this off just fine. I hope the movie would do well at the box office but.. Bloomberg has a lengthy article on Lionsgate’s two bosses Jon Feltheimer and Michael Burns‘ hope for this potential franchise, and that hope is that it would make a decent return on investment..
Feltheimer said they’d be disappointed if they didn’t make at least three or four movies. And if you recalled, they are planning to part the third adaptation into two films, so there will be a total of four.
Feltheimer hopes that the first film would gross over $100 Million domestically, they’re keeping their fingers crossed considering Lionsgate’s lackluster year especially with the failure of Conan The Barbarian 3D reboot. Boy was that a terrible film or what! That one was a critical and commercial disaster.
Feltheimer praises Lawrence, who plays Katniss in the film, stating that she “looks like she could start a revolution”
Studio’s president of movie production, Ali Shearmur said the following..
“We weren’t going to let the violence be gratuitous or the selling point of the franchise,”
“This is an emotional story about a young girl who sacrifices everything and sets off a revolution she never intended.”
Here’s to hoping that THE HUNGER GAMES and the word ‘successful’ would go hand in hand when the film arrives next spring! Cheers!
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in the trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 12 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.
Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES on March 23, 2012.
