Ok, as a zombie movie fan, I’m open to this idea. George A. Romero‘s classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD will be remade, well it’s been remade a couple of times before, back in 1990 and 2006, but this time it will not be live-action, it will be CG and in 3D and Romero is not involved. We know the format, we know the godfather has nothing to do with it but do we know if the zombies will be walking or sprinting. According to HeatVision, the title of this new take will be NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: ORIGINS because it’s going to focus more on the characters’ backstories.
So who are the brains behind this project? The directorial debut of newcomer Zebediah de Soto in collaboration with producer Simon West who helmed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
De Soto wrote the script with David R. Schwartz and it’s described as “An American style anime”.

It should be fun watching Zombies in 3D, it’s bound to happen sooner or later, it’d be even cooler if the living dead can actually walk out of the screen, into the theaters and really attack the audience and eat their brains, now that would be 3D fun!
Technology-wise, this remake is in good hands because De Soto and his business partner Gus Malliarodaki designed a real-time effects system, known as ‘The Beast’, which allows filmmakers the ability to direct CG performances the same way they would direct real live actors, so that the method of using tennis balls on a stick representing real people, like the how the dinner scene in Nutty Professor 2 was done, become a thing of the past by allowing actors interact with CG elements as if they are tangible. The magic of making movies, it never ceases to amaze me.
