Nimrod Antal Talks Why Adrien Brody Is Perfect For PREDATORS

Director Nimrod Antal (Vacancy, Armored) spoke to Comingsoon.net about PREDATORS reboot that he’s working on with producer Robert Rodriguez. He said Rodriguez is involved with the screenplay but gracious enough to let him work his vision. That’s fine and dandy but the big question that’s in the minds of the fans of the original starring Arnold, is why guys Adrien Brody and Topher Grace are attached to start in this reboot? It caused mixed opinions among Rama’s SCREEN readers about whether they’re the right choice at all. Antal defends Brody and he has his reason…

“it was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrian, there were a lot of people going, ‘What?’ but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic. He plays a mercenary in the film and if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, they’re not ‘yolked-out’ Schwarzenegger-looking guys. They’re all very wiry and thin guys, and I think it’s going to play well.”

What do you think about his answer? Fair enough?
I do know a couple of people who’ve served in the military and I have to agree with Antal in that none of those guys have bodies the size of Mr. Universe.
Latinoreview praised the script for PREDATORS written by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. So we’ll see how this will play out. Maybe instead of one man Arnold going up against one Predator. It’d be this whole gang going up against a gang of Predators, it’s a teamwork thing so there’d be no need for bulky guys after all.
To counter those who may doubt his ability to resurrect this franchise, Antal said he’s a hardcore fan of the original and that should count for something…

“Let me tell you, I was so much of a fan that I stood in line when I was 14 and I had the poster on my wall. I was a huge fan,”
“I think we both recognize that the original film was as good as it was because of the practical, because it was a guy in a suit, because it was the jungle, so we stay true to that. We were in Hawaii for a month in the jungle, so there’s going to be some pretty impressive locations.”

Topher Grace plays an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.
Alice Braga plays the tough female killer.
Mahershalalhashbaz Ali plays a man not afraid to die

Oleg Taktarov plays a former Russian special ops agent.
Danny Trejo plays Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.

PREDATORS opens July 9, 2010, release.
