Lincoln Lawyer Tommy Lee Jones

This is a bummer, I was looking forward to seeing Tommy Lee Jones showing us what he’s got as a feature director again after The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada but we’ll have to wait a little longer for his next one. It was previously announced that Tommy Lee Jones will direct and star in the adaptation of THE LINCOLN LAWYER starring Matthew McConaughey as the character Mickey Haller,a lawyer who operates out of the back of his Lincoln…

It was always assumed that Jones would play the second lead, the playboy character in the story. Problem is the book describes this character as someone who’s younger than Jones, although screenwriter John Romano might make some adjustments but that’s also probably where the other problem lies because according to Variety, Jones has exited the project on account of creative differences on the script. I looked up Romano’s resume as a writer to see what kind of quality work he’s done in the past and he’s worked on a lot of TV series gigs and then there were The Third Miracle, Intolerable Cruelty and Nights In Rodanthe.. ok, I see now, those were above average results but nothing outstanding. Point is, if the great Tommy Lee Jones has a problem with the way the story goes, Tommy Lee Jones is not the one to blame.
Producers are now looking for a new director to replace Jones.

Here’s the official synopsis of the book…

“Meet Mickey Haller, a cynical defense attorney whose one remaining spark of integrity may cost him his life. Mickey Haller has spent all his professional life afraid that he wouldn’t recognize innocence if it stood right in front of him. But what he should have been on the watch for was evil. Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers – they’re all on Mickey Haller’s client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence – it’s about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it’s even about justice. A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney’s dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal – this time to save his own life.”
