No Sigourney Weaver In GHOSTBUSTERS 3. No Ripley In ALIEN Prequel.

Last I heard, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is still in the writing process. Scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, that is what worries me because those two were responsible for the awful comedy Year One. Other things we know about GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is that the old original cast will return but in mentoring capacity while the movie introduces us to a whole new generation team, possibly with female members. Aykroyd previously suggested Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano
Sci-fi Squad asked Sigourney Weaver recently to find out whether or not her character Dana Barrett would return for the third installment and if her relationship with Peter Venkman would still be part of the story. Unfortunately she said her involvement with GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will be “non-existent”…
I’m pretty sure. I think they’re still writing it, but (laughs) I’d be very surprised … You never know. I just did a benefit with Bill (Murray), and we love working together, but I think they’re trying to create something new completely with the Ghostbusters, although I know Bill is in it. I hope my little son Oscar (from Ghostbusters II) is a Ghostbuster!
No, I don’t expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well.
And I wish Weaver well. As much as I’d like to see her reprise her role, I think GHOSTBUSTERS 3 needs to be fresh for today’s audiences and that sometimes means sacrificing characters from the past
But the thought of knowing that Stupnitsky and Eisenberg are writing the story is killing me.
Weaver was also asked if we’ll see her badass character Ripley in ALIEN prequel which The Scott brothers, Ridley and Tony will be producing
I don’t think that Ripley could appear in an Alien prequel because she doesn’t have any access to the creature until the first Alien. But Ridley (Scott) is producing it and that makes me happy. I wasn’t thrilled with the whole Alien Vs. Predator thing. I never saw them, but one of the reasons I died in (Alien) 3 was to not have anything to do with those (laughs). Just because, you know, I think it just seemed so economically motivated somehow. I feel we did four good movies, and I’m content with that. I hope if they do something new, they will encompass the idea of where the alien first came from, because I think that’s an interesting idea — to find out what happened and “how did it get to us?”.
I agree with her statement on Alien Vs. Predator and I’m actually a bit jealous at the fact that she never got to see that movie.
I just hope that ALIEN prequel wont’ be such an origin story that it’s just about a bunch of aliens in their home planet. I wanna see some humans running and screaming, getting chased by those ugly SOBs.
