O Geez.. Director Kenny Ortega Won’t Put DIRTY DANCING Remake In The Corner

I thought they were going to forget about this and no one would have to talk about it ever. But Lionsgate doesn’t forget easily. 2 years ago, they wanted to develop DIRTY DANCING remake. Well, the project is now moving forward…

Scribe Julia Dahl (Uptown Girls) is in charge of the script and today Deadline reported that Lionsgate has hired the man who loves to do musical movies, Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, This Is It) to direct DIRTY DANCING remake.
Somewhere, the late great Patrick Swayze looks down on this, in anger.
No word on the plot for the remake and if it would keep the very steamy style of dancing that made the original film iconic.
The 1987 classic, Dirty Dancing was made with a budget of just $6 million but earned an incredible $213.95 Million worldwide.
Back in 2004, Lionsgate distributed Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (it should’ve gone straight to DVD) but the movie flopped big time, it was made with a budget of $25 Million and only earned $27 Million..
Here’s to hoping that at least Jennifer Grey would be invited to make a cameo appearance in the remake
By the way, Ortega was supposed to direct FOOTLOOSE remake but creative disagreements caused him to leave that project.
