P.T. Anderson Is THE MASTER Of Hoffman

The great Phillip Seymour Hoffman was always in any of director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s movies in the past (Boogie Nights, Hard Eight, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love) except for There Will Be Blood, but the actor and the filmmaker will reunite again and instead of supporting role, this time Hoffman who is an Oscar winner will get to play the lead. According to Variety, he will star in the drama titled THE MASTER…
P.T. Anderson is tackling religion with this one and not in the same way he did for There Will Be Blood
“THE MASTER as in “master of ceremonies,” a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952.
The core is the relationship between The Master and Freddie, a twenty-something drifter who becomes the leader’s lieutenant. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, Freddie finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.”
Universal will not greenlight this $35 million budget project until Anderson delivers his finished script. But filming is expected to start next year. The possible reason Universal is cautious in approaching this it’s because adult themed dramas this past year like State Of Play and Duplicity didn’t do so well at the box office. But what the studio needs to understand is that P.T. Anderson‘s work is never about going out to get box office money, it’s always about aiming for Oscars, always about crafting the next cinematic masterpiece
