Paula Wagner To Produce Lee Daniel’s MISS SAIGON And RUN-D.M.C. Biopic

Other directors better watch out because Lee Daniels might be an Oscar contender, I’ve been hearing high praises about his new Sundance hit Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire (Check out the trailer). This past weekend, Comingsoon learned that Daniels is interested in directing a movie based on the the Tony award winning, tenth-longest running musical in Broadway history, MISS SAIGON, the tragic love story of… a Vietnamese bar girl and an American soldier before the fall of Saigon in 1975, written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil
Variety reported that MISS SAIGON the movie is on a fast track because uber producer Paula Wagner, one of the most influential females in Hollywood, who spent many years working with Tom Cruise when they were both in United Artist, wants to move forward with the project quickly under her new banner Chestnut Ridge Prods.
She’s going to hire a writer soon but Lee Daniels is definitely going to be the director. While her co-producer will be Cameron Mackintosh, who produced the West End-Broadway musical.
But that’s not all in Wagner’s agenda, she’s also set to produce a biopic movie of RUN-D.M.C. Now this should be epic. The Godfathers of mainstream hip-hop, I believe that was back when Hip-hop music wasn’t just about bumpin’ and grindin’ and til the sweat drop from my balls.
Founded by Joseph “DJ Run” Simmons, Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels, and Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell, they were the biggest act in hip-hop throughout the 1980s and Rolling Stone ranked them number 48 in their list of the greatest musical artists of all time
Not to mention they worked with Aerosmith on the rendition of Walk This Way.
Ah yes, a movie about RUN-D.M.C., count me in.
