I was stoked when I got the chance to interview director Peter Farrelly because I've been a fan of the Farrelly brothers' brand of comedy for years. Their movies Dumb And Dumber, There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal, and Me Myself & Irene are classics in my book. So in our chat, I just had to ask Peter Farrelly how things are coming along with our anticipated DUMB AND DUMBER sequel..
RS: What’s the one obstacle that’s keeping DUMB AND DUMBER to start filming already?
PF: “Negotiating with the studio, Warner Bros. The original movie was done by New Line who’s owned now by WB, but we have outside financiers putting up the money for the moive, which is done all the time now. A lot of studio movies are financed outside and then released by the studio. But the financiers are trying to cut a deal with the studio, and the studio wants this and the financiers want that, so that’s the only thing holding it back, it’s really a fun project and it will happen, I guarantee it, one way or another.”
RS: We know that Jim Carrey has always wanted a sequel, but is Jeff Daniels on board as well? Isn’t he a respected dramatic actor who’s busy with Aaron Sorkin now?
PF: “He’s wanting to do this forever. Jeff Daniels, when we hired him for the first Dumb and Dumber, he was a respected dramatic actor, he’s done Terms of Endearment, he was somebody that people knew but they didn’t expect that he would do this. He loves this, he’s the guy that’s kept this alive over the years.”
RS: Do you have a working title for DUMB AND DUMBER Sequel?
PF: “DUMB AND DUMBER: TO”
