Peter Jackson Will Now Direct THE HOBBIT.. Both Films!

It’s settled then! According to Deadline and Heat Vision, the man who brought us the adaptation of Lord Of The Rings trilogy will return to direct the 2-part adaptation of THE HOBBIT…

Guillermo Del Toro‘s departure gave everyone headaches. MGM-NewLine/WB wanted Peter Jackson back as the director but Jackson said he’s obligated by contract to give some time to TINTIN sequel (the first movie was filmed by Steven Spielberg and scheduled for release next year)
But it seems like the only deal-breaker is not that particular contract, it’s if there’s going to be another time-wasting delay due to the complications of MGM’s financial situation. Of all the people who can hold the rights to THE HOBBIT, it just had to be freakin’ MGM.
Names like David Yates, David Dobkin and Neil Blomkamp were all rumored to take on the project. If you ask me, after almost a month of not being able to find a director, I think Jackson just got up in the morning said “F*ck it.. I’ll do it then! Son of a…!”
Previous info said he didn’t really want to direct THE HOBBIT,.. otherwise, he wouldn’t have recruited Guillermo Del Toro into his team.

And so negotiation deal for Jackson to direct THE HOBBIT is currently being done with WB, New Line and MGM.
He will direct only after he pulls himself from other obligations. Does this mean Spielberg would have to find somebody else to take care of TINTIN sequel? Or perhaps they’ve made a more lenient scheduling arrangement.
As far as money problem goes, MGM is going to reach into what it’s got left in its pocket and give more to make sure that both HOBBIT movies happen.

At this point, the expectation is, Jackson will shoot both films back to back in New Zealand.
THE HOBBIT part I is set to open in 2012 and THE HOBBIT Part II opens in 2013
