Indiewire got a few updates on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 and TOP GUN 2 when they chatted with super producer Jerry Bruckheimer who’s busy promoting his latest, THE LONE RANGER.
As you know, Kon-Tiki directing team Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will helm Jack Sparrow’s fifth adventure, with the script rewritten by Jeff Nathanson. Bruckheimer explained the decision behind hiring Ronning and Sandberg..
“We saw their movie early on, maybe six months ago, and I saw some of their other work, which I thought was terrific. That convinced me,”
“They were interested in doing it and they flew over and we showed them a script that we were working on and they had really amazing ideas.”
“Last Friday they came to Hollywood and settled in and started working on it. We’re hiring production designers now and it’s moving forward.”
“We’re certainly going to be filming in Louisiana because of the tax breaks and I think there might be a sequence there,”
“But it will also be set in the Caribbean, obviously.”
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 will keep its mix of high seas adventure and supernatural horror.
On another note, last year we lost a great filmmaker, Tony Scott, who before his tragic death, has been planning TOP GUN 2 with Tom Cruise.
Bruckheimer previously said that TOP GUN 2 would still happen despite Tony’s absence. And he explained why..
“..now we’re at a point where the studio is excited and Tom is excited.”
“A lot of that has to do with Tony’s vision. He had a really exciting vision and he got everybody excited about it. That enthusiasm carried forward.”
When asked if whatever Tony prepared for TOP GUN 2 would still be used for TOP GUN 2..
“I think so.”
That’d be swell, I think that would honor Tony’s legacy, even though TOP GUN 2 may go through they rewrites, that they keep some of Tony’s vision or version in there somehow.
