December 16, 2009RamaNo CommentsMichael Eisner, Roy E. Disney
Most of you may not be familiar with Roy E. Disney but of course that last name bears a legacy. He was the nephew of the late great Walt Disney, the genius that made you wish upon a star. Today, via THR, Roy E. Disney died at the age of 79 years old, he succumbed to stomach cancer. For a long time he was a senior executive for The Walt Disney Company.
As a filmmaker, he had 2 films that were nominated for Oscars, the 1959 Mysteries Of The Deep which he wrote and also the 2003 animated short film Destino, which he co-produced
Here’s a cool fact, in 2007, Forbes magazine ranked him as the 754th richest person in the world and estimated his fortune at $1.3 billion. Wow! He was involved in the hiring of Michael Eisner and Frank Wells but he was also involved in the ousting of Ron Miller and Eisner, two top Disney executives
Disney was the company’s vice chairman and chairman of its animation division, where he helped oversee the making of such hit films as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King.
Thank you for your contribution to the world of cinema!
Rest in Peace!
