S.H.I.E.L.D. Series Will Stay True To Marvel’s Ethos. Cobie Smulders Is Invited Any Time

Joss Whedon, who’s developing THE AVENGERS 2 but is also bringing you Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. series told TV Line about why this show is going to be awesome and whether or not it would feature even more Marvel characters than initially planned..

“I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show,”
“It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

“We’re trying very hard to be true to [Marvel’s] ethos and also to the structure of their universe. So it is definitely a Marvel show.”
“right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show and then we’ll worry about the other stuff.”

Previous info suggested that Cobie Smulders who played Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers movie, might be involved with the show as well, but as you know, Smulders is still contractually obligated to How I Met Your Mother which will have its final season this coming year. Whedon didn’t confirm Smulders’ involvement with S.H.I.E.L.D. series because her schedules..

“will permit very little”
“but if we can get a hold of her anytime, we will.”

Chloe Bennet plays Skye, described as “a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She’s edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature”
Brett Dalton will play Agent Grant Ward, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s highly-skilled rising stars. He’s deadly, precise, and cool under fire — but not so great with the people skills.
Clark Gregg plays Agent Phil Coulson
Elizabeth Henstridge plays science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons
Iain De Caestecker plays technology guru, Agent Leo Fitz, a technology guru. Simmons and Fitz bicker a lot.
Ming-Na Wen plays agent Melinda May who is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier with combat experience.
Joss Whedon co-wrote the pilot with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and it’s been confirmed that Joss will also direct the pilot episode.
expect this series to air on ABC sometime in the fall season of 2013
