SAW VI Got Kicked By PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Paramount Wants A Sequel

Paranormal2

Paranormal Activity is not only the scariest movie of the year, (check out my review) it’s also the scariest movie of all time after The Exorcist, in my book. Those of you who don’t like horror flicks are probably curious to death by now hearing all this buzz and people talkin’ about it since it opened limited on the last weekend of September 2009. You even feel like you’re missing out. Maybe you should get a friend and just watch it just for the sake of saying been there done that. Fact is, the low budget movie is going to go down in history as one of cinema’s box office phenomenons and here’s why…

After one month, Zombieland, Where the Wild Things Are all have come and gone but the Oren Peli-directed Paramount Activity which was made with a budget of less than $15,000 has earned a stunning $62.4 Million domestically and it has kicked Jigsaw in the balls. The tricycle-riding, torture-porn twisted-game lover couldn’t steal the throne from the demon who keeps you from sleeping at night. Boxofficemojo reported that SAW VI only earned $14.8 Million in its opening weekend, settling on second place while Paranormal Activity raked in another $22 Million.

Wait, we’re not done yet. At one point, a while back, Paramount wanted to remake Paranormal Activity instead of releasing it to theaters. Boy that was a close one, ain’t it?!
But now with all this success, according to LA Times, Paramount is considering a sequel and all because the studio brags it owns both domestic and worldwide rights to the movie and predicts Paranormal Activity would reach $100 Million.
Can you blame them?! It only took less than $10 Million for marketing, the rest was word of mouth and internet Demand it, any studio would quickly think of sequel without thinking things through.

I hope director Oren Peli keeps himself miles away from this idea because any filmmaker that Paramount chooses to take on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 will most likely fail. I don’t mean to be a party pooper but if you think in the past horror flicks have had a chance of being as scary as its predecessor, you’re in denial.
I’m just shooting in the dark here but I can imagine the sequel would be about a bunch of pretty lookin’ teenagers stuck in a cabin, having sex, smokin’ pot and all of a sudden they get terrorized by a demon, kinda like slasher films but without the machete and you can’t really see the killer. Lame!
