Seems like the biggest reunion, the biggest reteaming, the biggest re-collaboration, however you wanna call it, in 2011 would be director Martin Scorsese and his go-to actor Robert De Niro. DigitalSpy reported that their next film, THE IRISHMAN could start shooting next year, the project is currently going through financing process. Previous info on this project, after this jump…

The last time De Niro and Scorsese made a gangster movie was Casino back in 1995. A decade after that, Scorsese’s movie The Departed won Best Picture, making it the first gangster movie to have won Oscar’s highest honor since The Godfather Part II.
THE IRISHMAN is based on a book I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES by author Charles Brandt, the story is based the life of the late mob assassin Frank Sheeran who supposedly was involved in the in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. De Niro would play Frank “the Irishman” Sheeran, who is reputed to have carried out more than 25 mob murders.
I looked up wikipedia for this Sheeran dude and Boy, the things he’s confessed! He claimed he was the one who put two bullets in the back of Hoffa’s head. He also had intimate knowledge about the JFK assassination and though he wasn’t directly involved, he was sure it was a mob hit. He said that Hoffa was cremated and that’s why the world has never found the body.

By the way,.. Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN is not to be confused with that other adaptation titled THE IRISHMAN based on the novel TO KILL THE IRISHMAN: THE WAR THAT CRIPPLED THE MAFIA starring the Punisher Ray Stevenson, the old multi-talented Christopher Walken, and the has-been Val Kilmer about “the true story of fearless Irish-American racketeer Danny Green who takes on the mob in the 1970s. The end result is the fall of several Mafia families and the defection of high-ranking mobsters.
