STAR TREK Review

They weren’t kiddin’ when they said this ain’t your father’s STAR TREK because even though it provides references that would excite fans of the classic franchise, this prequel, if you will, has all the necessary elements to… wow today’s young audiences who may not be familiar with Kirk and the gang. STAR TREK is visually awesome with action-packed sequences and profound storyline that will keep you engaged at warp speed. Director J.J. Abrams is a sci-fi god.
The greatest adventure of all time begins with “Star Trek,” the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind.
The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before!

I just wanna take the time to acknowledge the perfect cast. What an unbelievably excellent timing to have all these vibrant actors together, they not only compliment each other’s performances but they also respect the characters they play so much so it’s as if we’d gone back in time and actually seen the young cadets.
Chris Pine shows signs of a star in the making. As young Kirk who always gets into trouble, who’s cocky, and can be described as a cowboy in space, Pine displays skills that I rarely see in other young actors that usually end up as nothing but poster boys. There’s no better person to play young Spock than Zachary Quinto whose seriousness and capability to express so much knowledge, whose temper and determination help him out every step of the way in taking us through this first assembled journey where the rest becomes the stuff that history is made of. The same goes for Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho. They want to give a breath of fresh air, new rendition but at the same time you can still sense and appreciate their effort to embrace the responsibility that comes with playing the iconic roles
I’m sure coming into this world, J.J. Abrams knew that the fans would be critical, they’d be looking for every little flaw but I think Abrams won’t have to worry about that anymore. You can tell it’s J.J. Abrams directing, there’s that Alias, MI3 look and feel to it where as much as much as he enjoys that whole mystery plot, outsmarting the villain through teamwork, he also doesn’t like wasting time, Whether it’s the snow monster or the skydiving above the Vulcan planet, there’s always something bound to get your heart pumping, a roller coaster ride that’s absolutely fun. Amazing visual effects, which is no surprise because folks at ILM always know how to leave us in awe. There’s lots of lens flares inside the spaceship but I think it’s because the whole room’s got so much bright light but in a way it helps because it makes us feel like we’re on board too.
Screenwriters duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci done a great job of introducing the characters and making them meet. Of course we’re not going to expect them to become a team from the get-go and so conflicts have to exist, conflicts motivated by the past which by the way are the common grounds between Kirk and Spock. The chain of events caused by a certain time travel result in the two individuals to collide before they finally find their destiny. Audiences love stories about destiny, how one gets to be where he’s always meant to be and so the unpredictability and the unexpected twists and turns along the way that make it seem almost impossible are also the factors that make the story both intriguing and entertaining and I believe Orci and Kurtzman’s job was a success.
