I’m a huge fan of anything that HBO produces, so of course it’s no brainer for me to like such series as The Sopranos and the current hit Boardwalk Empire, two of the greatest gangster series ever written. Who knew that there would be a certain reunion bound to happen but it’s for a non-gangster related comedy..

Variety reported that Steve Buscemi is in talks to join magician comedy the Don Scardino-directed BURT WONDERSTONE starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. On top of that, James Gandolfini is also in talks to play a supporting role.
Those of us Sopranos fans would remember Buscemi and Gandolfini in one of the seasons of The Sopranos and Gandolfini’s charancter, Tony, ended up shooting Buscemi’s character to kingdom come.

BURT WONDERSTONE is a project which has been in development since 2006 when New Line bought the spec from Chad Kultgen, it was called BURT DICKENSON: THE MOST POWERFUL MAGICIAN ON PLANET EARTH at the time.
The most recent draft was penned by screenwriting team Jonathan Goldstein and actor/scribe John Francis Daley (TV’s Bones)
Carell will play a magician who is dethroned by a hip younger illusionist and must then find a way to rediscover his love for magic after a tragedy.
If deals are signed, Buscemi will play Anton, a Las Vegas magician who’s the longtime friend and partner Carell’s character.

After being injured by Burt during their “Hotbox” trick, he decides to quit the act and teach magic in the Far East. When a hot-shot street magician (Carrey) starts coming on strong, Burt must convince Anton to return to the stage. Gandolfini co-stars as a billionaire who owns the casino where Burt and Anton perform their show.

Studio is now looking for female lead and word has it Olivia Wilde and Sarah Silverman are in consideration for the role of the assistant.
Production starts January 2012
