Summit Wants One Of These Oscar Worthy Directors For BREAKING DAWN

Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant, Bill Condon

Seems like Summit Entertainment wants to close the chapter on The Twilight Saga with a bang! No more ordinary directors, according to EW, for BREAKING DAWN, the studio has reached out to 3 Oscar worthy names, Sofia Coppola who won Oscar for scripting Lost In Translation, Gus Van Sant, nominated for Milk, and Bill Condon, (Dreamgirls) won Oscar for scripting Gods and Monsters, nominated for Chicago…

It’s quite a drastic jump if you think about it. Going from Catherine Hardwicke whose take on the first installment was criticized by many, Chris Weitz whose take on New Moon was shown last fall, and David Slade whose take on ECLIPSE will make its way to theaters this summer…all the way to either one of the three Oscar worthy filmmakers.
What I want to know is if Summit is doing this because it believes these three directors have the style and vision that would match tone of the story… or is it just to create more buzz.

Bigger question would be, if Coppola, or Van Sant, or Condon agreed to helm BREAKING DAWN, would they keep the same mundane format,.. the long runtime, the staring contest between the characters while they’re whispering their dialogue, average action sequences and VFX?

It’d be hilarious though if Coppola made half of the movie silent,.. or Van Sant incorporated gay scenes, and Condon turned the entire Edward-Bella-Jacob plot into a musical.. Ha!

Van Sant’s reps said he has been approached for the project. Summit won’t decide until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors, an outline that will most likely include Bella’s controversial birthing scene… ugh.. I think I’m gonna close my eyes during that part.
We know from previous info that the adaptation of The Twilight Saga: BREAKING DAWN will arrive in 2 parts.
