Ewan McGregor

Director Terry Gilliam has found his lead actor for THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE, via Empire, and it’s Ewan McGregor, in the role that was originally played by Johnny Depp a decade ago. based on Miguel de Cervantes‘ classic 17th century romantic tale but a decade ago, production was put to a stop due to bad weather, budget problem, destroyed sets and lead actor Jean Rochefort’s back problems. The unfortunate situation, however, gave birth to a docu titled Lost In La Mancha

Jean Rochefort played Don Quixote in the first trial, and Depp played the character Toby, an advertising executive, who finds himself unstuck in time, unwittingly travels between modern day London and 17th century La Mancha, where he participates in the adventures of Don Quixote.
The director of The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus previously said that Johnny Depp won’t be returning obviously because he’s hella busy with other projects and he’s a bigger, more costly star than he was a decade ago
McGregor will now be the new Toby, this is after Colin Farell declined the offer.. will you look at that, from Johnny Depp to Colin Farrell to Ewan McGregor.. do you consider that an upgrade or the other way around?

Production is expected to start in September. The budget this time will be about the $20 million which is significantly different than the budget for their attempt in 2000, which was about the $35 million
The website also confirmed that Robert Duvall will be playing the new Don Quixote.

Gilliam had this to say about both actors..

“Robert Duvall is one of the greats, no question – and he can ride a horse!”
“And Ewan has gotten better over the years. He was wonderful in The Ghost. There’s a lot of colours to Ewan that he’s not been showing recently and it’s time for him to show them again. He’s got a great sense of humour and he’s a wonderful actor. He’s wonderfully boyish and can be charming – when he flashes a smile, everybody melts. He wields it like a nuclear bomb!”

Do you agree with Gilliam’s opinion about McGregor?
