If you see the filmography since Summit Entertainment turned into a fully independent studio in 2006, you’d agree if I say Summit wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for Merrill Lynch and its box office money making machine… the Twilight franchise. I think The Hurt Locker is Summit’s shot at an Oscar this year and recently the studio recently has decided to distribute Duncan Jones’ next sci-fi SOURCE CODE starring Jake Gyllenhaal. According to Variety, Summit will collaborate with another production company yet again for a new thriller…

Summit will finance and distribute THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY with Intrepid Pictures (The Strangers) which has been developing the project for the past year with Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans as producers.
Written by Scott Wiper and John Petro, the story is about “a young American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain. He’s left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father’s secrets.”
A story about saving his family huh… sounds like a job for Harrison Ford if he was young.
Production will start in Spain in Spring 2010. They are currently looking for a director.
