THE CROW Reboot Will Start Production This Year. Story Is Set In The Southwest

Back in February, Schoktilyoudrop said the script for THE CROW reboot by Blade director Stephen Norrington was completed and that the producer and visual effects people were figuring out budget and they’ve opened talks with major cast but nothing was final yet. We haven’t heard much since,.. until now..
The producer of the previous Crow movies, Edward pressman who will be returning to help produce this new take told MTV Movies Blog that once again, the screenplay is finished, he called it “terrific”, very different than Alex Proyas’ adaptation starring the late Brandon Lee.
Norrington’s vision, in collaboration with AVATAR production designer Rob Stromberg, is described as something that’s “inching closer to reality”. They’re going to have casting announcements soon and shooting starts this year.
So who’s going to play the new Eric Draven? They don’t have that person yet but they’ve made an offer out to a major actor and Pressman said talks are moving forward aggressively
He didn’t disclose who this major actor is. Who do you think that might be?
We previously learned that this new take will still be loyal to the graphic novel by James O Barr, so unlike Alex Proyas‘ dark, gloomy, gothic adaptation back in 1994 starring the late Brandon Lee who tragically lost his life during production, Norrington’s version will be more realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style
Pressman went on to say that Norrington’s take will diverge from Proyas’ version but will still be just as gritty.
The story is set in 2 locations, one in the Southwest, the Mexico/Arizona area and then it moves to an urban setting, the big city in the north, middle or eastern America like Detroit or Pittsburgh and then it returns to its initial platform again.
The Crow itself is a creature in this movie — it’s not just a bird,”
“It’s got a personality and a character. Not like Godzilla exactly, but it’s very different [and has] a more active role in the story.”
“Obviously it’s a different time and a different idea, but I think Stephen is a very talented fellow and I’m very excited to work with him,”
Here’s the official synopsis of the graphic novel THE CROW which was first published in 1989
“The story revolves around an unfortunate young man named Eric Draven. He and his fiancée, Shelly, are assaulted by a gang of street thugs after their car breaks down. Eric is shot in the head and is paralyzed, and can only watch as Shelly is savagely beaten and raped until she dies at the scene. Eric survives and is taken to a hospital, but while surgeons are trying to save him, the Crow comes to him and convinces him he needs to let go of his life. Only by dying can the Crow help him exact his revenge. One year later, Eric is resurrected by the Crow to seek out vengeance on the murderers, methodically stalking and killing them. When not on the hunt, Eric stays in the house he shared with Shelly, spending most of his time there lost in memories of Shelly; her absence is torture for him, and he stays in hideous emotional pain, even engaging in self-mutilation. However, this provides him little release; any injury he suffers (save those that are self-inflicted) heals rapidly, leaving him scarred but intact. The Crow acts as both guide and goad for Eric, giving him information that helps him in his quest but also chastising him for dwelling on Shelly’s death, seeing his pining as useless self-indulgence that distracts him from his purpose.”
