The Exorcist

Make no mistake, THE EXORCIST is still the scariest movie of all time. Paranormal Activity comes close but doesn’t surpass the 1973 classic. It was based on a novel by author William Peter Blatty who also wrote the screenplay, directed by Oscar winning filmmaker William Friedkin, the scarefest itself was nominated for Best Picture believe it or not. Her’s a shocker, Blatty recently implied that there’s going to be a remake or a reboot with younger stars, to be directed by Friedkin again and he also mentioned in an interview with Cemetery Dance (via Bloody-Disgusting) that THE EXORCIST miniseries is also in the works. What the hell?!…

“Yes and no. I would love to have been able to include the subplot involving Karl and his daughter Elvira which I did in my first draft, but that script ran to 172 pages, much, much too long. But I might have it my way in the near future, inasmuch as I’ve written an Exorcist miniseries script that not only faithfully includes all the main elements of the novel, but also some rather spooky new material and scenes, as well as a totally new (and perhaps much more satisfying) ending. I’ve also updated it. Billy Friedkin has agreed to direct.”

In the original film, Karl was played by Rudolf Schündler
All of THE EXORCIST sequels were not as terrifying as the first installment, what made Blatty so sure a reboot would make any difference?! And an idea of having a miniseries about this subject is just silly, why would you want to tune in each week to watch exorcism gone insane?! Who in their right mind would wanna embed in their minds the graphic image of the demon-possessed kid every week?!
But maybe that’s what Blatty meant, a remake in a form of miniseries with some of the episodes directed by Friedkin. I’m sure we’ll hear confirmation soon enough to clear things up once and for all.
By the way, if you haven’t seen the original THE EXORCIST, all I can say it… watch with caution…
