If you’d recall last year, a few months before The Hangover was released, WB wanted a sequel because the test screenings went through the roof, everybody loved it and then bam! The movie opened and it went down as the highest R-rated grossing comedy of all time! Who would’ve thought that three not so famous names suddenly became well known and their characters became iconic in just one summer. But the road to THE HANGOVER 2 wasn’t easy because obviously the actors wanted a bigger pay. Deadline New York reported today the deal is finally locked, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will reprise their roles…

I’m not gonna bore you or give you a headache with all the numbers and the details abut here’s the gist..
Bradley, Ed, and Zach will each get paid int eh vicinity of $5 million against 4% of first dollar gross. Director/producer Todd Phillips will be paid around $10 million against 10%, on top of that he will also get bonuses that insure if the sequel does anywhere close to the original’s $467 million worldwide gross, he will not make less than his income on the original, an income meter which by the way is still running and passing the $50 million mark.

The 3 guys and Phillips are getting richer with THE HANGOVER 2. Come to think the studio made a gamble with these guys. Before The Hangover, I remember Bradley only as that dude from Alias series, Ed as that dude from The Office and Zach as that dude from Out Cold.
They only got paid no more than $300,000 for the first installment. Hell, for ordinary folks like me, that still sounds like one helluva lot of money.
After The Hangover went huge, their managers, agents and attorneys negotiated endlessly with the studio so they could get more pay for the sequel. It was a long ugly fight because the studio didn’t want to be generous.

But it’s ok now, THE HANGOVER 2 is moving forward, the guys and the director are back. No word yet if the rest of the cast will return as well because obviously the story is kept secret for now.
There have been rumors that it might take place in Thailand but there’s no truth to that.
They expect filming to start in October this year but it all depends on whether or not Ed could get away from The Office series.
Obviously the budget for the sequel will also be significantly higher than the first movie which only cost about $34 Million

THE HANGOVER 2 is set to open Memorial Day 2011
