THE JETSONS Is Out Of Rodriguez’s Hands

Robert Rodriguez has been attached to the live action THE JETSONS movie for quite some time, last we heard they might even start production next year and he was enthusiastic about it, but now we can kiss that goodbye because the filmmaker with the cowboy hat has gotten way too busy. Panjiba reported Rodriguez is NOT directing THE JETSONS, in fact the job might be handed over to Peter Segal (Tommy Boy, Anger Management, Get Smart)…

Warner Brothers was pleased with the script by John Altschuler and Dave Krisnky but if Segal signed on, the script would be scrapped and they’d start from zero.
The big problem that the studio has been facing is that no actor, at least the ones they’re looking for, wants to be cast as either member of the family. Even Jim Carrey turned down the offer to play George Jetsons, which I think is a smart move. Carrey is hella talented but he’s no George. I can’t even imagine him playing George. But maybe they need to take this a sign that THE JETSONS movie probably was never a good idea in the first place anyway.
I doubt Segal wants to say yes to this project. He’s recently set to direct DIRTY OLD MEN starring Morgan Freeman and he’s got GET SMART 2 waiting.

This is one less headache for Rodriguez. He’s in post-production of MACHETE, he’s overseeing PREDATORS reboot, he’s also writing SPY KIDS 4 and as we know recently, SIN CITY 2 is happening and filming may start in the second half of 2010. His family movie Shorts may have been a box office flop but with or without THE JETSONS, Rodriguez will be just fine.
