Jack-Ryan

A couple of months ago, Paramount said that it expects Chris Pine to be the new Jack Ryan in the next installment which will not be based on a Tom Clancy novel. At that point, Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, and a rewrite by Adam Cozad is happening, the studio has taken the “first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise.”
Via comingsoon.net, Producer Mace Neufeld gave his own confirmation as well that Chris Pine is indeed going to be the new Jack Ryan and the story will be an original, it doesn’t have a title yet but more than that, it will NOT be an origin story…

“We pick him up when he’s on Wall Street,”

“…[but] the Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They’re kind of ‘thinking man’s thrillers.’ Jack is referred to as a ‘water-walker’ because of his ability to jump ahead to conclusions. That’s very big in all the Jack Ryan films and that’s how we want to portray him. He’s a teacher. He’s a historian. He’s a linguist. And he’s really smart.”

Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For Red October
Harrison Ford in Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games
Ben Affleck in Sum of All Fears

Is it fair to say that there hasn’t been one perfect actor playing Jack Ryan? I mean we can always say that the best James Bond ever was Sean Connery but it seems like Jack Ryan has always been searching for its perfect actor. Isn’t Jack Ryan supposed to be the American equivalent of James Bond? A renaissance man who’s good at just about any skill? And yet there hasn’t been one actor, not even Baldwin, Ford, or Affleck that could make us say ‘now that’s an awesome Jack Ryan’. This is one character that’s more iconic in Clancy’s pages than on the big screen.
