Special thanks to Disney for sending me the advanced blu-ray copy of one of my favorite films this year, THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN. Family is a big thing for me and I think what Peter Hedges has crafted is the kind of family friendly film that’s heartwarming and wonderful in every sense of the word. If only the blu-ray had been made out of leaves like that pencil the characters made in the film, that would’ve made this blu-ray even extra special..

Academy Award®–nominated writer/director Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
When young Timothy suddenly comes into the lives of Cindy and Jim Green, they learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

As I mentioned in my review of the film this past summer, THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN gives clarity and hope. This is a movie for parents and parents to-be. With enough mystery to keep your curiosity fed, this timeless story is for anyone who thinks they couldn’t realize the impossible, it melts your heart and stays with you long after it’s done
Great group of actors with Jennifer Garner who’s famous for being so chill and caring on the set, rising star Joel Edgerton provides good chemistry as the husband, and let’s not forget Dianne Wiest, Rosemarie DeWitt, Common and Ron Livingston who all believed in the power of Hedges’ story and all contributed to their best ability. Talented young actor CJ Adams plays Timothy, who touches the lives of everybody around him. CJ looks wise beyond his year, you can just tell that he’s the kind of kid who doesn’t give up and is always willing to give his all for the story.
The bonus features includes featurette: FAMILY ROOTS which gives you inside look, behind-the-scenes making of the film, with talking heads explaining their roles and why they love working on this and also the creative team that brought it to life.
There’s also a segment that lets you in on the score music process and also the original song THIS GIFT, by Oscar winning songwriters Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the team behind Once.
And it also carries a few deleted scenes that might interest you.
It’s clear to see that Hedges created a safe and fun environment that allowed his cast and crew to be imaginative and creative and freely give input that would improve their performances, and those things and more are the reason why THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN feels genuine.
In its essence, this film champions adoption of which I’ve always been a big supporter. But even more than that, to me, THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN is about a lovely couple wondering if they’ll ever become parents, only to find that they have what it takes to be parents all along, thus realize that being a parent is the coolest, most rewarding job in the whole wide world.
THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN won’t win an Oscar, but it’s got a nice, cozy place in this immigrant heart.
