THE UNBORN Review

If you’ve never seen The Exorcist but you’re curious and you’re too scared to watch it, then watch THE UNBORN. I should put this under comedy genre instead because this movie makes me laugh, I kid you not. It has so many ridiculous elements that I feel sorry for… every one involved in this project. THE UNBORN is one of the slowest horror movies around. Having said that, the only decent aspect are the visual effects but the movie depends too much on the lead star who looks like Megan Fox’s long lost sister. I can’t believe that it was actually written and directed by one of the guys behind the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Unbelievable!

Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.
With Sendak’s help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany—a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. With the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.

I can imagine David Goyer in a library somewhere, researching any supernatural-related manuscripts, myths, and books, blend them up together without putting thoughts into how they might work as one entity and hope it would be the next cult hit.. boy he couldn’t be more wrong! The story contains so many superstitious stuff, it tries too hard to convince you that they might be true. It wants to make you think and fear those things after you watch the movie but the problem is.. they’re presented in the most laughable, outrageous manners that once you get out of the theaters, an average audience or any horror flick fan would feel like they’ve been ‘robbed’

They say laughter is the best medicine, so I think I’m gonna watch this again whenever I’m feeling under the weather. Animals with their heads upside down and an old man walking like a crab across the hallway are supposed to scare you? THE UNBORN is about as despicable as The Reaping was. After watching this movie, you’re gonna wish you had never been born to see it in the first place.

I don’t know what Gary Oldman owes David Goyer but I hope this will be their last collaboration on this particular genre. It doesn’t take a genius to see that Goyer probably has Oldman just for star power since nobody really knows the lead star hottie, Odette Yusman. And believe me when I say, this movie makes the most out of her looks and her ‘behind’. But still, her presence alone is not enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. I think only the last half hour is worth watching, the first hour is slow like a snail. To describe it as boring will be considered too nice. It will test the limits of your patience. And why the hell does British actor Idris Elba keep associating himself with lame scary movies?! The Reaping, Prom Night, and now this?! Either it’s an unexplainable addiction or he needs to fire his agent. And a chance to work with Gary Oldman is not an acceptable excuse to put yourself in this excruciating, unnecessary, shameful gig.
THE UNBORN is one of the funniest comedy movies I’ve ever seen.
