Thomas Dekker

You’ve checked out the casting call for the new FOOTLOOSE Movie. Studio was looking for 18 year old actors or older to play High School Seniors, they must have natural rhythm and be comfortable dancing but they don’t have to be a trained dancer as long as they’re quick learners. And now they might be close to getting their new Kevin Bacon..

Bacon played Ren McCormack in the original 1984 movie. Chace Crawford (TV’s Gossip Girl) got the job of playing new Ren after Zac Efron turned it down but Chace had to drop the project due to scheduling conflict with the TV series
LA TIMES said the current top choice, the front runner is now 22 years old Thomas Dekker, known for playing young John Connor in the short lived series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dekker was recently seen slashed by Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.
His new movie KABOOM was well-received at Cannes ’10.
No confirmation yet but I’m sure we’ll hear announcement soon enough.
Craig Brewer will be directing FOOTLOOSE the remake after Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) left the project due to disagreements with the studio on the direction of the story. Paramount folks and producers want it dramatic with less emphasis on the music, while Ortega wanted it vibrant with elaborate musical and brightly colored tale.
Shooting starts this summer..

Here’s the synopsis of the original FOOTLOOSE..
“Classic tale of teen rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic and touching performances. When teenager Ren (Kevin Bacon) and his family move from big-city Chicago to a small town in the West, he’s in for a real case of culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Ren can’t quite believe he’s living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal. There is one small pleasure, however: Ariel (Lori Singer), a troubled but lovely blonde with a jealous boyfriend. and a Bible-thumping minister, who is responsible for keeping the town dance-free. Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance, especially since the senior prom is around the corner, but only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople.”
