Who can play a military man in cinema better than Tommy Lee Jones, huh?! Let’s face it, he plays it so well, we start to wonder why Jones hasn’t received some kind of medal for it.
Via comingsoon, Jones has signed on to star as WWII’s great General Douglas MacArthur in EMPEROR starring Matthew Fox.
This Fellers Film – Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment’s political thriller is directed by Peter Webber (The Girl With A Pearl Earring), scripted by David Klass and Vera Blasi.
It’s essentially an epic love story with historical true events as its backdrop and by true events I mean the uncertain days following the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, when Gen. Douglas MacArthur was the de facto ruler of Japan as supreme commander of the occupying forces. And when MacArthur’s protege, Gen. Bonner Fellers (Fox) was in charge of deciding whether or not Hirohito should be tried and hanged as a war criminal
The story will also be about Fellers’ love affair with a Japanese exchange student he met years prior and his quest to find her in the post-war landscape.
No word yet on who will play the Japanese exchange student, casting process is underway.
Production starts later this month in locations in New Zealand and Japan
