Both Bleedingcool and Deadline reported that 20th Century Fox bought the screen rights to NEMESIS based on the graphic novel written by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Wanted) and illustrated by Steven McNiven. Published by Marvel this past spring, it’s currently on its second issue. Scott Free will produce and Tony Scott is set to direct. They’re going to hire a writer for the adaptation but Scott whose thriller UNSTOPPABLE (watch the trailer) opens this years, is also attached to POTZDAMER PLATZ, HELL’S ANGELS and THE ASSOCIATE based on John Grisham‘s book.
NEMESIS is about Batman-like billionaire genius Matt Anderson who becomes a masked villain, out to avenge the death of his beloved parents who were also villains. His number one target is police chief Blake Morrow who captured his parents. Nemesis’ cop-fighting vendetta brings him to the masterplan of taking D.C. and President hostage and finally getting his hand on Morrow. You can read his complete plot over at Wikipedia, while a review of the graphic novel can be checked out at Newsarama

  1. Wow… what will they think of next for our next generation? Yea… let’s root for a killer who’s after the good guy that killed his two criminal parents.

    Nice.

Let’s root for a villain who kills hundreds of people by derailing a train… just because his parents were killed by cop.

Stupid! How many of our young generation will be cheering for this ass? Plenty. Which tells me our new generation will probably find it ok to take revenge… even if THEY themselves are on the wrong side of the law.

    UGH!!!! F*&%ing Hollywood!

    • @Moviebuff… I see your point..
but I can’t help but be intrigued by how unique the concept is..I mean, I’ve never read the graphic novel.. at least not yet.. but this sounds well,.. he’s not antihero like.. V or Jonah Hex for example.
So I don’t know if the audiences would end up rooting for the villain here.. but the fact that his story is at the center, the focus, is interesting..

  2. I see what you mean. I guess if they shape the film like they did with PUBLIC ENEMIES (Johnny Depp vs Christian Bale) it could work. Even thought Depp played the main character, the focus in the film was Bale bringing him down. And I DO recall rooting for Bale.

Guess it could work… as long as one of the focuses in the film is showing the audience that Nemesis is in the wrong while trying to take revenge.
