TRON: LEGACY Director Sets A New Record For First Time Director. TRON: LEGACY Sequel Is Happening?

When I met Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski this past weekend at Disney’s press junket for the film’s blu-ray release, I didn’t know I was talking 1:1 with the man who’d become “the highest-grossing first-time director of a live-action film in Hollywood history” because that’s what Deadline has reported, special thanks to my friend Lori for the heads up…

Kosinski’s film, Tron: Legacy banked $399 worldwide, beating J.J. Abrams‘ feature directorial debut, Mission Impossible 3 with just $397.5 million gross back in 2006. Congratulations, Kosinski! Even though Tron: Legacy did have the advantage of 3D pricing but still, it’s an achievement worth celebrating. Here’s another reason to celebrate, when I talked with Kosinski about the possibility of TRON 3, all he said was that it all depends on the blu-ray sales and all that good stuff that would convince higher power, the big bosses to make a continuation happen. Not to mention, they got that animated series Tron: Uprising, so they need to see how that would be doing as well.
But it seems like the mouse house is confident enough because that very same website said Disney has started work on Tron: Legacy sequel “which Kosinski is constructing with original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz”
That’s all it said, the rest of the article talked further about comparing him to other first time directors.
When I read it, 2 things crossed my mind, TRON 3 is happening? Awesome! the second thing was.. Is this for reals? Because I thought Kosinski and his OBLIVION gang are too busy shopping that project to other studios ever since Disney decided not to move forward with it. But hey, if TRON 3 is happening, you won’t get complaints from me. I just hope the story would be just as exciting as the visual and the disc battles this time around.
