TRUE GRIT Opens Christmas Day 2010

What gift will Santa bring you for Christmas this year? How bout The Coen Bros‘ remake of TRUE GRIT. Variety says that Paramount has decided to release it on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2010 and along with that info Paramount also decided to take June 18 release date away from FOOTLOOSE remake that’s still having problem since Kenny Ortega exited the project…

If you wanna know why, obviously Paramount wants TRUE GRIT to be its ticket to Oscars. Releasing it in the fall, in time for awards consideration, on top of that, capitalizing on the holiday frame, folks are on vacation, they’d go to the movies and watch TRUE GRIT, not really I’d consider a holiday themed family movie but hey, as a fan of The Coens, I say bring on the joyful tidings.

The Coen Bros. have been developing TRUE GRIT which will intend on being more faithful to the Charles Portis book than the 1969 movie that gave the Duke John Wayne an Oscar. Already joining the cast of this new take are Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon and the story involves a young female character named Mattie, they haven’t cast an actress for that role yet.

Jeff Bridges to play the character Marshall Rooster Cogburn. Damon will play the lawman who teams up with Cogburn. Brolin is in talks to play the killer.

Here’s the official synopsis of Charles Portis book, TRUE GRIT…
“It tells the story of Mattie Ross, a fourteen-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, who sets out in the winter of eighteen seventy-something to avenge the murder of her father. Since not even Mattie (who is no self-doubter) would ride into Indian Territory alone, she “convinces” one-eyed “Rooster” Cogburn, the meanest available U.S. Marshall, to tag along with her.
