O boy, here’s another remake! Variety reported that Universal Pictures is developing a new take on the 1982 comedy musical movie THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS. Wait,.. if Kevin Smith couldn’t fly with his ‘A Couple of Dicks‘ title, why would the word ‘whore’ be ok?! Hollywood can be such a such a hypocrite sometimes…
The original movie which was based on a Broadway play, based on an article by Larry L. King and adapted by Peter Masterson, starred Burt Reynolds and the legendary Mrs. 40DD Dolly Parton, about a town Sheriff and regular patron, fights to keep a historical whorehouse CHICKEN RANCH open when a TV preacher targets it as the Devils playhouse
In the real world, whorehouses can be depressing.. not that I would know, ehm.. but in that old movie, it’s all singing and dancing.
You can watch the entire movie over at Hulu
The studio has hired screenwriting duo Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde) to write the remake. The project will be produced by Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (Twilight, Dear John)
Though this remake will also have musical numbers, no word yet if it will feature the same songs played in the original, some of which was written by Parton.
