Wayne Kramer To Direct The Biopic Of Gangster PRETTY BOY FLOYD

What’s your favorite gangster/mobster movie of all time? Sure The Godfather and Goodfellas probably up there on the list, after all, they’re classic, but movies like Hoodlums and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels are worth mentioning as well. That said, there hasn’t been a biopic yet about PRETTY BOY FLOYD. His character has made appearances in several movies over the years but there hasn’t been a stand alone movie dedicated to him,.. well, that’s about to change..
According to Risky Business, under-appreciated writer/director Wayne Kramer (Crossing Over, Running Scared, The Cooler) is going to direct PRETTY BOY FLOYD for Myriad pictures.
Floyd was played by Channing Tatum last year in a great Michael Mann-directed gangster flick, Public Enemies, it’s still sad to know that the movie didn’t do as well as expected at the box office.
Tatum didn’t get a lot of screentime in that movie because it was just for one brief scene where his character Floyd met his maker at the hand of agent Melvin Purvis, played by Christian Bale. But I doubt Kramer will cast Tatum in this ambitious biopic..
My suggestion.. Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You know that dude can hit this one out of the park.
The screenplay for PRETTY BOY FLOYD will be penned by scribe Kevin Bernhardt.
It’s gonna be part gangster thriller, part love story because this will be Kramer’s approach..
“My approach is to bring 21st century style and energy to Kevin Bernhardt’s meticulously researched screenplay without sacrificing the verisimilitude of the period or over-sensationalizing the characters themselves,”
“At the heart of ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ is a great love story about an outlaw on the run who can’t stay away from the woman he loves, no matter how destructive the relationship is for both of them — which ultimately leads to his demise.”
“on the run who can’t stay away from the woman he loves”.. that sounds like Public Enemies all over again.. but here’s a bit about the real Charles Arthur “Pretty Boy” Floyd.
He was one of America’s notorious gangsters and bank robbers that ruled the 1930s, other names include Dillinger, Baby Face Nelso, Machine Gun Kelly and more.
His other nickname was “The Robin Hood of the Cookson Hills”
The love of his life was Ruby Hardgrave, they were married in 1924
He was allegedly involved in Kansas City Massacre that took the lives of four police officers. There are varying accounts still as to how Floyd was killed in 1934 at the age of 30. We’ll see which one Kramer would use for his movie.
