WB Has Won Victory Against THE HOBBIT Parody

The Hobbit

Last December, I shared you info that a U.S. district court in California put a temporary restraining order preventing THE HOBBIT parody film, titled AGE OF THE HOBBITS, from going on sale on Blu-ray and DVD, Dec. 11, a few days before the stateside theatrical release of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.
WB-NewLine asked the court to put the restraining order and the studio has also filed lawsuit against Asylum, a film production company that releases low budget B-quality straight to DVD parody films like Transmorphers and Snakes On A Train and they usually release their films on the same week of the release of the actual Hollywood blockbuster films that they spoof.
In their defense, Asylum said the word ‘Hobbit’ in their parody refers to a human sub-species with the Latin name homo Floresiensis, but the judge didn’t fall for that argument.
Hollywood Reporter recently said that WB-NewLine has won that battle, a federal judge granted WB’s request for a preliminary injunction against the distribution of ANY movie that has HOBBIT trademark.
Asylum’s movie got retitled CLASH OF THE EMPIRES.
