WB Vs. Legendary Pictures Over THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Which Costs $250 Million To Make

Company Town has an article explaining the possible tension between WB and Legendary Pictures which have been partners on some of the blockbusters and flops you’ve come to know (300, The Hangover, Jonah Hex, Sucker Punch). In that article, it’s revealed that it’s going to cost about $250 Million to make the next Batman film, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES…
Its predecessors, Batman Begins was made with a budget of $150 Million and it banked $372 Million worldwide, 2008′s box office hit, The Dark Knight, was made with a budget of $185 Million and took in more than $1 Billion worldwide.
Clearly, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is significantly more expensive and so WB and Legendary partnership is reportedly on rocky grounds because WB is said to not be willing to share half the profits. The fear is motivated by the fact that after this summer, WB will lose one of its profitable franchises, Harry Potter because as you know, the series ends in July. And so WB’s head honcho Jeff Robinov heavily depends on DC Comics superheroes to fill the void.
WB and Legendary are still collaborating on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (and also on SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL and CLASH OF THE TITANS 2) but at the same time they’re also discussing the terms of their financial agreement and whether or not they’d want to extend their co-financing and production deal, which will expire in 2013
