Earlier this month, it was reported that the project that was supposed to be Matt Damon‘s feature directorial debut but then he backed out, and then he gave the project for his Good Will Hunting director, Gus Van Sant to helm, but there were concerns if WB would still want to house the $12 – $15 budget project. Well, Vulture recently said that WB has officially backed out but that’s not all bad news because word on the street is that Universal Pictures (home to the Bourne franchise starring Damon) is in talks with Damon to finance this untitled drama, deal is expected to be finalized this month and production might start late April or early May…

Damon co-wrote the drama with fellow actor John Krasinski (TV’s The Office)
Both Damon and Krasinski will also star alongside Frances McDormand. In this film, Damon will play a salesman who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question.
The storyline was initially created and developed by Krasinski and author Dave Eggers (Away We Go). The initial title was Gold Mist.

Damon apparently took the script to Van Sant who then agreed to helm the film which will start production early April.
It’s now described as a Capraesque tale about rival corporate executives.
The reason for Damon not making this his feature directorial debut is that he couldn’t set aside the time needed to direct it.
