WGA Deems DJANGO UNCHAINED, BEASTS OF SOUTHERN WILD, And LES MISERABLES Ineligible

Now don’t worry, don’t get too upset about Writers Guild stance on this, usually the movies they don’t think worthy of their inclusion doesn’t mean that the movies would not be considered for Oscars.
But via In Contention, apparently Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, Joe Wright’s ANNA KARENINA, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, and QUARTET will not get to compete at the Writers Guild of America Awards.
Why you ask?..
Well, it seems that WGA restricts contenders to screenplays for films that were written by WGA members or written for production that are signatory to WGA’s minimum basic agreement or agreements of five affiliated int’l guilds, and apparently, Tarantino is not the guild member.
But Martin McDonagh’s SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS and Michael Haneke’s AMOUR and Sergio G. Sanchez’s THE IMPOSSIBLE are all also not eligible.
But like I said earlier, don’t worry, because THE KING’S SPEECH was written off by WGA’s ballot but the filim went on to win Oscar for best original screenplay.
BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD got written off by WGA because of the film’s low budget and non-union production.
Animation is also ineligible, so WGA is not considering BRAVE either.
I’m still vouching Tarantino to receive Oscar nod for original screenplay at the upcoming Oscars!
