You’re Not Going To See The ‘Nastiest’ Parts Of BREAKING DAWN In The Movie
June 16, 2010RamaNo CommentsBreaking Dawn, Melissa Rosenberg, twilight
I’ve never read any of Stephenie Meyer‘s Twilight books but apparently the last installment, BREAKING DAWN got more graphic and gory than its predecessors. Not about vampires killing vampires but LATIMESBlog chatted with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and asked about how the movie’s going to portray “Bella losing her virginity, the graphic birth of her and Edward’s child, and her vampire transformation” basically stuff that the fans are going crazy about while the rest of us might want the visual to be taken out of our heads..
Rosenberg said..
On the fan site, on Facebook, all the comments are “It has to be R rated! You have to show the childbirth! Gore and guts and sex!” For me it’s actually more interesting to not see it. You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth … it doesn’t mean it’s any less evocative of an experience.
For once I actually agree with Rosenberg on that aspect alone. Because that’s the same reason why I thought Hotel Rwanda was powerful, you can sense how strong the violence was even when you didn’t see it depicted on the big screen.
I’m not saying both movies are alike, I’m just saying with the right dialogue and structure,.. it can be done.
Besides, I doubt Summit wants an R-rated BREAKING DAWN and deny itself of the box office money that could come from those under 18 Twi-hard Teens.
As previously reported, BREAKING DAWN will come in 2 films, both directed by Bill Condon, the first part arrives November 18th, 2011
