YouthInRevolt

Well, this is a bummer! I was actually anticipating YOUTH IN REVOLT because the trailer managed to convince me that Michael Cera may be able to play other characters as well, like his bad side for instance. This movie has been screened at the recent Toronto Film Festival and was well-received. But like I said before, the one thing I hate more than stupid drivers are studios shuffling release dates of their movies to the audiences’ disadvantage and now the inevitable has happened. It hit the web today that the Weinstein Company decided to move the adaptation YOUTH IN REVOLT from October 30th of this year to next year, specifically January 15th, 2010

Which is odd if you ask me because January is usually the dumping ground for god-awful movies that should never be spoken about ever again.
The reason for this move is because TWC already has the upcoming A SINGLE MAN, THE ROAD, and NINE to worry about. The Weinsteins only got so much money to campaign for those three, so there’s no marketing dough left for YOUTH IN REVOLT and come fall season, TWC usually thinks of only one thing.. Oscar! Those 3 candidates take precedence over the story of Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) and his quest to win the heart of Sheeni (newcomer Portia Doubleday) and hopefully lose his virginity along the way. Based on C.D. Payne’s cult-hit novel of the same name
