ZORRO Reboot Is Titled ZORRO REBORN And It’s Set In The Future? To Be Directed By Rpin Suwannath

Were you a fan of the 1998 Martin Campbell-directed period piece adventure, The Mask Of Zorro starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones? I actually thought it was swashbuckling fun, I mean.. that happened before Pirates Of The Caribbean came along. However, I can’t give the same compliment to the 2005 sequel, The Legend of Zorro, that was a bit of of a mess, the movie itself bombed at the box office. But it’s no Hollywood unless they press the reset button, right?!..

24 Frames said ZORRO Reboot is on its way but it’s not going to be like any of those two films mentioned above. The current working title is ZORRO REBORN and the project is being housed at Fox. The plan is to move the characters from historical period piece California or Mexico setting and.. the hero will live in the future. Yup, let me repeat that.. ZORRO in the future, they’re thinking “a desolate and post-apocalyptic one” I kid you not. I suppose our masked hero would be dumped somewhere in Mad Max type land.
This reboot will have him “be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that has echoes of both Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.”
Ok, I have mad respect for the late great Sergio Leone’s works and also for the film No Country For Old Men but this ZORRO REBORN is starting to sound like it would not be much fun and adventurous at all. But then again, we’re living in a post Batman Begins era where every reboot in town wants to be all dark and gritty in hopes that they would enjoy the same box office success that Nolan’s films did.

ZORRO REBORN, already scripted by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, will be directed by a pre-viz master who worked on such gigs as X-Men, Matrix, named Rpin Suwannath but at this point everything is still in early stages of development.
Don’t expect Banderas to return, ZORRO REBORN is looking for a young actor to play the lead. Who do you have in mind?
